THE MAN BEHIND THE SEASON
Each day I, like many other Americans, am bombarded with all of the news about all of the problems that our country and others across the globe are facing. The year 2011 will go down in history as the year that many Americans finally started taking those problems seriously. Each week I write about politics and how I feel that it will affect our lives. From my own personal experience I have seen how our people have perverted the whole idea of what our government was founded upon.
Through the years I have worked for many candidates in their bid to get elected. I have always held the belief that integrity will solve any and all problems that we might face in life. Anytime I have helped those candidates, I have always told them that all I expect from them is to do their job and provide good government; I do not believe in helping the candidate and then expecting preferential treatment or some cushy job. Sadly I have observed an attitude growing within our country where far too many people have the attitude of ‘what can you do for me today’. We have forgotten that the purpose of our government is to protect our freedom and defend us from foreign threats. An attitude has been cultivated where many people want to get their share of the pie before it is all gone. As I sit here on Christmas Eve, I am reminded of the road that Jesus Christ took and how it has affected our world.
Jesus was a young man full of charisma and was developing a huge following. It would have been very easy for him to have joined with the powers of the day and became a part of the in clique. He could have said that he wanted to eat the good food and sleep in a soft bed. If he had taken that path he would have been no better than the hypocrites that were in power at the time. Instead of using his political power for personal gain, he chose to let the people know that there was a better way to live one’s life. We as a so-called Christian nation need to start asking ourselves how we are carrying on the legacy of Jesus Christ. It is a fact that Jesus did not support the hypocrisy of his day and was willing to sacrifice an easy life. It seems like many Americans aren’t willing to sacrifice anything and are willing to support the hypocrisy of our day as long as it benefits them. An attitude is a hard thing to change; Jesus Christ paid a high price for his stance and without his sacrifice our world would be a far different place. In addition to enjoying the trees and lights maybe we need to remember the man behind the season.
