TAKING YOUR COAT OFF
We all know the importance of having a good warm coat when you go outside in the cold, however it doesn’t take long to remove the coat when you get back inside where the heat is on. Most people can’t stand having a coat on when the atmosphere starts getting warmer. I have found that many people treat their righteousness much the same way. It is easy to be self-righteous when the going is easy, but when the real test comes humans have a bad tendency to shed their coat of righteousness and just follow the crowd. Every day I witness a decline of the morals and principles that made our county great, but it is refreshing to see some people keep their principles and morals even when the temperature is heating up.
Last week I watched the news about the Green family that owns the Hobby Lobby stores make their argument before the Supreme Court of the United States concerning some of the requirements of Obamacare. The Greens are a devout Christian family that has incorporated those beliefs in their business endeavors. Due to their strong pro-life religious convictions they are opposed to abortion causing drugs or any procedure that would abort a fetus. According to the government the Green’s religious freedoms should be limited to their home and not to their businesses.
It should be noted that the Greens hire thousands of people and they already provide health care insurance. Another fact, none of the Hobby Lobby stores are open on Sundays. I am sure that their bottom line would show more profits if they did open on Sundays, but because of the commandment of keeping the Sabbath day holy they do not open. I feel that the government is overstepping its authority when it tells a person they cannot run their business according to his or her religious beliefs. I am not happy with some bureaucrat or elected official dictating the states’ morality upon our citizens. Sadly many American people aren’t outraged by all of this government meddling. Maybe it is because we have become used to many of our elected officials having the morals of an alley cat, we have gone from being outraged to expecting immoral behavior from our elected officials.
If Hobby Lobby loses its case before the Court, will they be required to keep their doors open on Sunday and support any and all deviant behavior that our government approves of? The loss would give Hobby Lobby limited options. #1 they can close all of their stores, #2 they can pay huge fines that would bankrupt their company, #3 they can stop providing health coverage and pay a penalty of $2,000.00 per employee, and then the employees would be responsible to purchase health insurance themselves or pay a penalty. I commend the Green family for sticking to their principles even though the heat is being turned up. I wish there were more families like the Greens.
