SOCIALIST PARTY A AND B
I just read where our Oklahoma legislature approved a budget for this session; I also noticed that it is the biggest in state history. In the 8.3 billion dollar budget the governor and the state house and senate will be receiving huge increases in their budgets. The governor’s office will have an increase of 121%, the senate 25% and the House received a nearly 60% boost. It seemed ironic that, on average, other state agencies received around a 5% increase. Like most agencies that increase their budget at the expense of the taxpayer, they will probably tell you they are increasing their budget so that they can serve you better. That mentality really makes me feel so secure when more and more of my earnings are taken for all of the good service that they are currently providing.
Any government agency has an unquenchable desire for more of your money. Those agencies continually complain about budget cuts and their needs for more money. When you look at the state appropriated budgets over the past years there has been a constant increase. Taxes, especially sales taxes, have a built in tool for increasing tax revenues. Inflation will continue to raise tax revenues; for example if you bought a lawn mower last year for $100 you paid sales tax on that purchase, if you purchase another lawn mower today and pay $150 for it the state will receive 50% more money than they did last year simply because of inflation. The legislature is growing the size and scope of government simply because they have more of our money to throw around. We need to remember the massive tax increases just a year ago and how they came about.
The uncontrolled growth of government is a problem that affects all societies. Several years ago many of us fought to pass State Question 640 to slow down the growth of government; while it was successful in many ways, the legislature created loopholes to get around the constraints of SQ 640. Instead of calling taxes ‘taxes’, they called them ‘fees’ that were added on anything imaginable. Have you ever looked at the fees tacked upon your phone bill recently? While the majority of our legislature is occupied by individuals with an R by their name, we need to remember that the leadership was just fine with passing huge taxes upon the citizens of Oklahoma. We also need to remember that those RINO Republicans targeted the true conservative Republicans who supported SQ640 and got most of them voted out of office.
I am a conservative and a registered Republican, but through the actions of a Republican controlled legislature it is very evident to me that the liberals are not just in the Democrat party, they are very much alive in the Republican Party as well. It is time that the people of this state realize that inflation and a corresponding increase in taxes will prevent us in the private sector from being able to elevate our standard of living.
