THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

JOBS AND SEEING EYE TO EYE

Over the past few weeks the topic of jobs has been on the news constantly. I understand that growth and more jobs for our citizens can help us grow out of some of the economic problems that our country is experiencing. The way I look at work, it is a way to convert wasted time into something valuable. When people are working, they can use their income to purchase items that they may want instead of just the things that they need. When more money is in the system, more new businesses will arise to fulfill the demand that a growing economy will generate. Whether a person is a liberal or conservative most can see the effects of a growing economy. When it comes to how to achieve a growing economy, that is where liberals and conservatives don’t see eye to eye.

Often the liberals feel that the government has the ability to create jobs and, in effect, grow our economy. We conservatives do believe in the use of common sense laws from our government and those laws to be kept to a minimum. We feel that the best place to truly grow an economy is through the private sector. Politicians and bureaucrats should not be in the position to choose who in business is a winner or a loser. As in the case of the Solyndra scandal, the real losers in that boondoggle were the American taxpayer. Maybe there were other private companies with less political influence than Solyndra that could have built a viable product if the government wasn’t, in essence, in competition with them.

For those who think that the government should be deciding who is the winner or loser, maybe our government should take a more active role in sporting events. How would a sports fan feel when his favorite team was winning the game then all of a sudden the government would demand that more players from the other team could go on the field and out-man the winning team just to make the contest more “fair”. I seriously doubt that the fans would tolerate such an intervention, but for some reason when the same thing is done in our business world it hardly causes Americans to raise an eyebrow.

America economics was designed upon the greatest system ever devised, “capitalism”. Capitalism allows the brightest and most talented to prosper. We capitalists understand that for our economy to expand, the less efficient parts must change to stay competitive or be allowed to die. Until the liberals understand the concept of capitalism we will never see eye to eye.
