WILD HORSES AND SCRABBLE
Anyone who has ever seen wild horses in the wild can appreciate the kind of life that they live. I have spent some time in the mountains of Colorado and had the privilege of observing those magnificent animals. There is something special about watching an animal that is completely free; they make use of the natural resources around them and are not limited by anything. When the stallions are captured, gelded and have harness put on them, their stature is forever diminished. Today, the 28th of June, the Supreme Court did to the American people what a horse trainer does to a wild horse.
In the health care bill there were penalties that would be imposed upon any individual who refused to purchase health care. The judges concluded that penalties would be unconstitutional but calling the penalty a tax would make everything just fine. This habit of playing word games is starting to get a little old in my opinion. Many years ago the people of Oklahoma passed State Question 640, which in essence said that the legislature could not pass an increase in taxes without a vote of the people. While the people of Oklahoma thought they had gained some control of the process, the legislators simply started passing fees upon everything imaginable from fees to dispose of worn out tires to fees for licenses for professional people to stay in business. From personal experience I could not see any difference between the fees and taxes. Both took money out of my pocket; if I failed to pay either one someone in government would be knocking on my door to collect money.
Whether the Supreme Court judges call the money that would have to be paid to the government a penalty or a tax makes no difference. The effect will be exactly the same. Anyone who does not purchase health care will have to pay money to the government. Many of the countries in the European Union have a socialized medical system that requires every citizen to purchase health insurance. Every day we hear on the news about the dismal condition of their economy; it seems like our leaders are hell bent on taking our country down the same failed path that the Europeans were foolish enough to take.
During this election year I have heard countless people talk about the need for more jobs in this country. I know many business people and most of them have been reluctant and undecided to invest and create more jobs because of the uncertainty of the ObamaCare Bill. The decision of the Court, in my opinion, has made up the minds of employers across this country; many new jobs will not be created because it will not be economically feasible for the employers to do so. When the judges are setting around in their black robes playing scrabble, maybe they should try to spell LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
