Could we have another civil war? Easy to say for some individuals, yes. But that answer is not so clear cut. Today we are not united as they were back in the mid 1800's, where there was a clear seperation of idealology between northerners and the south. The was a greater cause to fight for; the imposition of idea's which changed the way of living of most of the peoples of the south.
Today, there are divisions among the ranks and most people are not united for a common cause. Even when you believe there is allot of the same Democratic or Republican party members who support you idea towards government, not all believe the same when it comes to siting violence.
Not everyone of them even served in a unified armed force such as the military. Those who have served in the military have been taught the role of the soldier is to support the president and the constitution. However, some factions still hold the same belief that we could take government forces if need be.
Question remain could we have another civil war, even as the military preps for war or conflicts overseas doesn't mean they will necessarily be willing to attack citizens of the United States even if called upon to do so. For they realize that their families and friends might also be attacked by other troops too. That was the course of the Civil War in the mid 1800's, where soldiers sometimes ended up fighting against other family members.
Organization, today there is little in respect to organizations of people with in a city much less to defend against armed and organized troops. Howbeit, people tend to gather for the same cause when they know all of their rights or freedoms are at risk. But that leaves clear leadership to the side, it's everyone for themselves, unless you have a strong person who tends to make since of things. Then some begain to follow that person. Orgainization is then being formed, but now we are talking about a process that takes much time and clearly something has to happen to cause the unity to form.
In contrast, when the civil war began there was clearly a defined unitiy amongst certian groups which opposed the north and certain leaders appeared and those were mostly those who already opposed the north, in the southern colonies. Today there is not that clear line, some oppose the government we now have and some are markedly for the path we are now on. I see much fighting amounst each other and most areas would be easily suppressed. However, larger towns that is not so true with all factions, as some have already formed gangs, and those gangs would likley remain together, though likely be removed without much difficulty.
It is easier to see a nation that would remain at conflict for sometime on a small low level scale, mostly urban warfare and uprising. Rual America would fade out has a holding spot in a matter of time. Why, because they would be much unlike those in remote countries we now occupy and soldiers already know how to deal with them, even by force if necessary.
It is clear however, the government would be in for a long and hard fight in many areas should they decide to force a state of unity against them where civil war became a fact. The greatest mistake would be to give the people a common cause to fight against marshal law or depravation of civil rights. This case could become true even if one civil right was taken away. Freedom of speach or freedom to bear arms, many would fail to comply and even invoke civil unrest.
The answer could there be another civil ware? I think is yes, but only if the government lost since of the constitution themselves and brought to bear it's resources against the people. I believe in the short run the government would have advantages, but it would be costly as a nation and last longer than any other war we have been engaged in overseas. Also, would not be forgiven quite so fast as the civil war of the 1800's. Do I believe the people could overcome the government by any notion, perhaps in the case of state governments and formed leadership leading directed organized resistance, but perhaps only to cause seperation and division amonst the collective United States. Even then it could be anticipated most would conceed back over time.
I have heard talk of use of UN troops to help suppress the people in some New World Order thing, that would be a huge fail in my opinion, because that would give common cause to all people to unite against something, inevibly raise the bar to all armed citizens are your enemy. I would think even US troops would defect the ranks in such case, that is if they could convince them that waging war against their friends and family was worth while or necessary.
