LEADER OR RULER
One of the greatest accomplishments the founding fathers had in creating our government was to establish a system of checks and balances that prevents any political party or group from gaining too much power. They believed in the rule of law and not the rule of men. Sometimes average citizens think that laws or spending programs should be implemented in a faster fashion, but our system of checks and balances have prevented untold mistakes that would have been made without them. Our system was designed for moral and righteous people to lead our nation in accordance with our constitution and laws. Every elected official is required to take an oath to obey the laws of the land and to defend and obey the constitution of our nation. A couple of days ago I watched the press conference held by our president and I listened to his comments on the second amendment and his desire for more gun control legislation. While all civilized Americans are saddened and sickened by the school shooting in Connecticut, I have some serious concerns about our president’s actions.
For a very long time I have been concerned about the overuse of executive orders by any president. Executive orders, from what I understand, were meant to be used in the case of an emergency when congress was not in session; that was definitely not the case when our president decided to use executive powers to enforce his will upon the nation. Fortunately most of his proposals will have to be brought before the congress. Our constitution is very clear on the second amendment and our president has sworn an oath to uphold it, but it seems that he is intent upon finding any way possible to circumvent the very document that he promised to obey.
My liberal friends seem to cherish their right of free speech, but they seem to have little respect for the second amendment. It is strange that the left is willing to weaken the second amendment for law abiding citizens but they refuse to expedite the trial and punishment process of the inhuman individuals that commit violent crimes.
Our president urged the citizens to speak to their legislators about imposing more gun regulations. If our president would open his ears, our citizens are speaking with a very loud voice and with their pocket books. People from all walks of life are purchasing guns and ammo to the point of making firearms stores’ shelves empty. Another ploy that he used was to have a group of children backing him up. Dictators such as Hitler, Castro, and Stalin all had photo ops with children to sway public opinion in their direction. I have always heard that humans never learn from history because they always seem to repeat it. Those of us who love freedom don’t intend for our nation to follow the path of nations such as Germany. Our president was elected to lead this nation but not to rule it.
