PROTECTION RACKET AND BOOGIE MEN

It is a sad fact about human nature that it causes some people to use any method to get their way; it can range from force to intimidation and outright violence. In many of our major cities various gangs will blackmail business owners and citizens to make them pay money for their protection services. Often the threat is never clearly identified; maybe it is the boogie man in the dark. Usually they like to scare the hell out of the people just to relieve them of their hard earned cash, I am sure that very few of these so-called protectors could care less if their victims had enough money left over to survive.

A few days ago I watched our president give his speech on the mandatory sequestration. His actions reminded me of the tactics used by the protection gangs. The American people need to remember that the idea of the mandatory spending cuts originated in the white house in the first place. With his actions he seemed to try to scare the hell out of the American people, his long litany of scare tactics ranging from laying off police officers and school teachers to TSA agents doesn’t solve the underlying problem in this country. We simply cannot keep spending more money than we have. Instead of offering solutions, he simply reverted to the same old play book of blaming the Republicans for all of the problems. I would like to make it very clear that there is plenty of blame to go around for all parties.

I have to say one thing for our president, he is the most cunning and manipulative politician that I have ever seen. His command of the main stream news media is total and complete. He is never asked why he refuses to submit a budget to Congress on time or that the Senate also refuses to create a federal budget. The federal budget is so large that many Americans cannot grasp the enormity of it. While 85 billion dollars is a huge sum of money, that amount is only 2% of the total federal budget. We Americans need to understand that politicians derive their power from spending the taxpayer’s money. Far too many of them rely upon the lack of knowledge that many Americans have about the fiscal issues confronting this nation. I have no doubt that we Americans will experience some severe withdrawal when our government can no longer pass more taxes or borrow more money to keep the system going. This round of spending cuts will be nothing compared to the effect of the interest rate rising on the debts that we owe. Through the Federal Reserve’s manipulation of our currency and interest rate they have kept that number low, but it cannot last forever.

Whether you are accosted by a gang banger or the federal government, the results are very similar. Both claim to be looking out for you and both can scare the hell out of you.
