THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

STAND UP AND BE AN AMERICAN

The main source of the prosperity that we Americans have enjoyed all of our lives is the idea of freedom. I have found that freedom is not for the faint of heart, it requires that we take responsibility for our actions and be willing to accept the consequences of our actions. I have noticed that far too many Americans are willing to accept the erosion of our freedoms because they don’t want to be responsible for their actions. I guess it is just easier to look to an Omni-present government to take care of all of our needs. I have noticed that governments often take on a life of their own, just look at the recent events in the tiny nation of Cyprus. The very government that was supposed to take care of the people who elected them was ready to confiscate a percentage of their savings without any due process. The events in Cyprus should be a wake-up call to anyone who puts their blind faith in government.

One issue that should be of concern to all Americans is the United Nations Agenda 21. In essence Agenda 21 would give the United Nations the right to remove the right of private property use. Instead of free Americans deciding what to do with their private property, it would be the UN deciding what would be the best use for the land. Anyone who truly understands the concepts of the founders of our nation can see the danger of allowing any of Agenda 21 to be implemented. State Representative Sally Kern authored House Bill 1412 which, in essence, states that Oklahoma has no interest in accepting Agenda 21 in our state. Fortunately HB 1412 did pass the House of Representatives and was sent on to the State Senate.

While some may consider those of us who are concerned with the erosion of our property rights as being paranoid, I applaud Representative Kern’s actions. Being from the farming community I understand the importance of shutting and latching the barn door before the horses can escape. I have found that once a freedom is lost it is very hard to regain it. When I look back in time as short as 20 years ago, I can see how our freedom is being eroded by a bunch of bureaucrats, and sadly many American citizens accept it because they fear freedom and the responsibility that goes with it.

We Americans need to open our eyes to the events that are happening in the tiny nation of Cyprus. Like many Americans I love my country, but I am becoming increasingly distrusting of our government. I am especially opposed to some socialist, communist members of the United Nations having anything to do with the internal affairs of our nation. It is time all of us stand up and start acting like true Americans.

Local State Representatives voted as follows, Brown (excused), Bennett (yes), Fourkiller (no).
