Copy Cats and Trends: World of Terror

Like the thorns of a cacti today's youth have grown, pointed towards a thorny path where anything is possible, with no direction they may lead off in a path that will bring shame and embarrassment to those who raised them.  While others will just simply despise them for what they are capable of and what they show us.

It was just the other day I heard news that a town in Oklahoma called Tahlequah had two instances where a bomb was placed in separate locations with in a week or so, and with in the previous week another town in Oklahoma a church was burned down by a arsonist.  Yet I hear on the news a kid was caught with a IED or incendiary explosive device in a shoe box or something and his mother delivered it to the police department after finding it under the kids bed.  We must ask ourselves are we really taking charge of our children the way we supposed to be.  When did we loose control and how do we know when they are doing such things.

It starts with morals, good family morals which are embedded in a child's life; taking the liberty to listen to our child and determine early on how to see problems before they become big ones.  Today's society often times the parents are too busy, with their jobs or other interest to set down or take the time to listen what the kids are saying.  By the time they find out, the child may have already given in to peer pressure or have made a unwise decision.  Not to say every kid will go out and do something malicious as did the few we hear in the news about.  However, even little infractions can lead to bigger ones when we dismiss the behavior.

We commonly read of problems breaking out through the news and don't know that it would be good to discuss the sort of thing with our children.  Sometimes we shrug it off as something that couldn't possibly happen in hick town USA, but now I must say it has and it does.  Today, the internet is a source for finding all kind of things, and the news is heard via Facebook and TV all the time.  When people are trying to get some kind of attention this is the extents they may go to receive it; good or bad.  It is a shame that some of the information is readily available to children and some criminal minded adults who may find, widely distributed on the internet.  The bad thing is that it is almost too late to police it up now.  All they have to do is type in something about Afghanistan and news about an IED being placed somewhere causing mayhem.  I won't get too much into detail about that but, research on anything anymore yields information.  A little here and a little there makes a big picture, a window to troublesome times.

Sometimes information we gain about a subject as responsible adults may educate us in knowing what indicators are for problems evolving around the ever growing destabilized would we live in.  Perhaps, if we know early on what looks wrong we can stop it.  It could be something as small as a kid choosing to ware camouflage and black boots when they ordinarily don't, or they tend to hang out around a rough crowd when they never did before.  Changes in attitude or changes in their attention span that is not associated with normal growing up.

Schools should have safety meetings among the staff to learn behavioral patterns and watch for things out of place, around their school.  Recognize when a box or bag is placed where it shouldn't be it could actually be placed there intentionally.

Average citizens should always be aware of the same in particularly when going to large social events or sports events in these times of unrest.  Learn to be aware of the surroundings and have a action plan in case of a emergency.  Often times no one really thinks about these things and always when something happens the mass crowds start to panic, this ordinarily leads to some getting pushed aside or even knocked down while others are trying to leave the area.  The faster you are to respond to situations the more likely you won't be caught up in that.  More could be said about this subject, but the important thing is to plan for your families safety in matters where turmoil could possibly occur.  Also, speak to your children and make sure they know what to do if something should occur, like having a meeting place.

In today's society we must also look at other things which have been occurring by staying abreast of the latest news.  Sometimes criminal spree's sets off a chain reaction in other locations, so always be aware of what is making the news.

It is important to learn our children by listing to them, and not just barking orders all the time hear what is going on, learn about their activities and their friends activities when possible.  Be involved, take the time to educate your children about some possibilities that are out there which could be dangerous.  Wither you believe they are listening or not often time they are.  You do not have to instill a fear factor in their head, but  being aware may be enough.  Perhaps, with older children you may be able to cover more advanced stuff like how to survive in certain situations, but make sure you have done your own research.  Find out if your schools have implemented procedures to handle events that are occurring in the news.  Plan for today and hope for a better tomorrow.
