LIBERTY OR TYRANNY
One of the founding fathers made the quote that when the government fears the people the result is liberty, but on the other hand when the people fear the government the result is tyranny. As I look at current events I can see more and more people living in complete fear of the very government that was created to protect our freedom and liberty. One of the main government agencies that all working class people fear is the Internal Revenue Service. It is a department that has been given too much power in the past and they are not afraid to use it. Now with Obamacare the IRS will be given more power to enforce the mandates of the new law. The recent scandals about the IRS targeting Conservative groups should throw up a red flag to all freedom loving citizens of the United States. Why should we trust any department that will use political power to silence free speech?
In a recent article I read about some member of congress and their staffs working to get themselves exempted from the Obamacare mandates. They do not want to go to the health insurance exchanges that millions of Americans are being forced to go to. Some of the staffers even complained that they couldn’t afford the cost of the new insurance. When you look at the numbers from the Congressional Budget Office in 2012, the average U.S. federal government employee makes $14,632 more in direct cash income than their private sector counterpart; at $74,436 versus $59,804,the extremely generous benefits with which they are also compensated boosts their real income margin by $26,632 over the average private sector income earner, putting their total compensation at $114,436 versus $87,804. I also might note that the average for the private sector worker includes high salaried CEO’s, sports stars, high paid entertainers, etc. It is strange to me that these congressional staffers can see the train wreck for them and they can’t see the financial impact that is facing those of us who make far less than they do. If they are so incompetent they cannot see the train wreck for the private sector, they evidently don’t care.
Throughout history many cultures have fallen into a system where there was a system of laws for the commoners and a different system for the elite or the ruling class. In some of those cultures it even got to the point where the penalty for killing a commoner was less than for killing someone from the ruling class. All of us have seen the symbol of our justice system where a lady is holding up a set of balance scales while being blindfolded, how far have we become removed from that symbol? I understand that many people’s time is in short supply, but if we don’t take the time to educate our people about our true heritage of freedom, that freedom will become just another forgotten memory.
