The Haunted Hollow

The Haunted Hallow
By James Breedlove

Many years past by and the mention of the old gave site still rings fear to those today as it did in years past.
A place known for its haunted personae and the fact that one single tombstone could be found, yet it was awesome in size and must have cost a fortune to place.  Who would bury someone in a forsaken site like this yet spend that kind of money for a tombstone.

It was early May when the children from the area gathered in for an organized adventure, unlike others they had done in the past, this one would be remembered for their entire lives.  Five young teenagers gathered to make plans of a trip to the old haunted cemetery they had heard of in the past.  Curiosity had gotten the best of them.  Soon the departed in the evening hours of seven o'clock as they knew it would be more scary to go out at night.  For most of them wanted to see who would become scared first and others just wanted to see if there was any truth to the tales over the years.  But all of them had some fear as they came closer and closer to the site where it was supposed to be.  Their hearts became heavy and raced as their adrenaline kicked in.  By now even a simple boo would have scared them into running for their lives.

Soon they were upon the site of the cemetery and it was seen with great awe and each of their eyes.  There was no turning back now, they had to enter to big black iron gates that held captive the gave place of a single stone marker.  The closer they got the darker it seem to get and from everywhere seem to come the misty air and the silhouette of the trees in the dimmed light gave a particular feeling of fear in their hearts.  Suddenly, one of the teenagers yelled out "if there is something here come and get us".  The other's begin to panic and became slightly angry at the other, as he had first yelled out and scared half of them and also had invoked whatever may be there to attack them.

After a few minutes had gone by an nothing seem to occur they lingered around the grave stone and brushed away some old moss which had grown on the back of the stones.  One of the teens were able to view some writing scripted onto the stone face.  "This is the gate to the souls who have been but, not forgotten", wow that is weird one of the girls said.  What do you suppose that means?  On the front side of the stone, it was discovered another inscription stating simply "UNKNOWN".  By now it had became almost pitch dark out and only one flashlight was among the teens, as they were not really prepared to be there for as long as they had been.  A couple of the boys said lets get out of here, as the place was beginning to get cold and damp with a musty odor which seem to animate from everywhere.

As they turned to leave one of them begin to cry, and the other's begin to speak out "what the **** is going on here!".  Suddenly, the flashlight illuminates ahead of them...Panic, screaming they run past the tombstone they had visited just minutes before.  Again, one of the boys scream their over hear too!  One of the girls falls to her knees and covers her face while sobbing, "No No NO, this isn't happening!".  Some of the teens gather together near and upon the stones of the gave maker with panic expressed on their faces.  There is got to be a way out of here..are they coming towards us!  The flash light shines into the distance, "I..I don't see anything said one of the five teens".  One of the teens shouts "where is Debbie"!  One of the boys said "she is with Donna, but I don't see either of them,  Oh my, uh we got to get out of here".

As the teens look into the distance around them they yell for the other two, yet nothing can be heard; except suddenly a thump in the dark behind them occurred scaring Robin terribly and she falls to the ground. "Help her, Richard said to the other teen".  They both try to wake her and suddenly they feel a cold breeze a presents among them that makes their hair stand on its ends.  "Uuh, do you feel that Mitch says to Richard"? Yeh, thaaats....Mitch uses his flashlight to catch a glowing figure, glaring and yet translucent appearing creature standing yet with out touching the ground...GHOST!  Richard yells!  It's a ghost!  By this time, Robin had awaken and screamed, "make it stop"!  Let's run for it said, Mitch.

After traveling 30 feet the teens encounter the same apparition as before and they turn to run the opposite direction, and they barely notice the stone as the ran back, and realized that they completely lost and without much hope, when suddenly the hear voices.  "Did you hear that" Robin said?  "Uuh, yow" the other teens said.  That sounds like Debbie, where are they?  In a frantic hope of finding them the begin yelling out, Debbie, Donna, WHERE ARE YOU!  Again, they get a creepy feeling something is behind them and turn slowly to look.  S***! Richard says and they run, not knowing the direction which they came or where going.

It's morning and the sun comes over the trees, light fog in the air and stillness in the air with an occasional bird making noise in the trees.  Breakfast is served at the home of the teens, but a gloom still remain from the missing teens who went off on a adventure to never return.  Some still say they hear voices as they near the old cemetery, and most locals dare not to venture to the site, but occasionally some youth still challenge to go; where the doors to the unknown exist.  When the doors are open, there are things which challenge our since of reality.
