DANG WE’RE GOOD
Last night I watched the State of the Union address and fortunately I had a good supply of Rolaids to get me through the speech. Those of us who live in the real world have a much better perspective of the real condition of our nation. While our president has the belief that government is the source of all prosperity, I cannot disagree more.
During the last campaign cycle he made the comment “you didn’t build that.” In his eyes all of the accomplishments that we make during our lifetimes are only possible because of the benevolence of an all powerful government. We Americans need to remind ourselves that government does not create any wealth. The only wealth that government has, had to come from the private sector.
It never ceases to amaze me how career politicians like to brag on how good they are and take credit for something that they had little or no part in. When our president said that America is now producing more oil that we imported, many of the members of Congress gave a huge round of applause. In reality we Americas could be producing much more energy if it were not for all of the roadblocks that government imposes upon all of us. The huge increase in oil and gas production has occurred because of drilling on private lands. Instead of our president patting himself on the back for all increases in production, he should be looking at the economic boom in states such as North Dakota and try to replicate that boom across the country.
Our nation sets upon some of the largest energy reserves in the world. We have the ability to be totally self sufficient in energy if the government would open up drilling on federal lands and simply get out of the way. Instead the current administration has declared a war on coal and all fossil fuels. Our president refuses to approve the Keystone pipeline; that one project alone would create thousands of high paying jobs and would add to the property tax revenues across the nation. Instead of embracing proven technology with fossil fuels, he keeps promoting the so-called green energy technology. During his administration he has squandered billions of taxpayer dollars on firms such as Solyndra and others with little or nothing to show for it. The technologies that these bankrupt companies developed are now being purchased by Chinese companies at bargain basement prices.
If we Americans would only start looking objectively at the claims of our politicians when they say ‘Dang, we’re good.’ We would see that the strength of our nation comes from the capitalistic spirit of the hard working citizens of this nation, and yes we did build that.
