SOME NEVER LEARN
I have heard it said that history proves that we humans never learn from history. A few days ago I was watching the news and heard the story about the President’s plan to cut the military of this county to levels not seen since before World War 2. I also watched while our National Defense Secretary made the comment that in the future the United States would not be the major military force in the world scene. When you look across the pages of history these kinds of actions are an invitation for war. Fortunately past presidents such as Ronald Reagan understood that fact; having a strong military is the best deterrent to war. When our enemies can see that our forces are well equipped and strong, usually they decide the cost to their country is not worth getting into a fight with us.
When a person takes an objective look at the world scene today, one can see that the world is becoming a very dangerous place. While the current administration wants to disarm and reduce our nuclear arsenal, other nations such as North Korea and Iran are actively building up their conventional and nuclear forces. Just as the world was before World War 2, there is a growing force of evil in the world. Before World War 2 there was an attempt to pacify Adolph Hitler and we all know how successful that was. If it had not been for the power of the United State Military and the sacrifices of the greatest generation this nation ever produced, Hitler would have taken the world. Now we have a president who thinks that going on an apology tour across the globe with the misguided belief that kissing the feet of our enemies will ensure peace.
I have the belief that the best insurance to avoid war is to have a military second to none. Over the years our federal government has strayed into more and more aspects of our lives, now the feds are ready to cut our military so that they can use the money for more social programs to gain votes and political power. The nation’s defense is one of the duties of the federal government, however when the nation’s budget gets tight the military is first thing the liberals want to cut. I agree that there can be waste and abuse in the military budget, but for the most part when left alone our military has protected our nation and other freedom loving nations. In our world today there are plenty of regimes and nations that are driven by evil, the United States is the only major force for freedom and good. When the next crisis on a global scale comes, what will be the outcome without a strong force of good in the world?
