THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

AN EXPERT OPINION

One trait that many humans seem to be losing is the ability to question the decisions of someone that is supposedly in charge. We need to remember that just because someone is in a position of authority doesn’t mean that they are infallible. We humans must start developing our instincts; they will help us to make the right decisions when a time of crisis enters our lives. The recent sinking of the ferry ship in South Korea is a prime example of the importance of having good instincts.

When the ship began to have problems some people followed their instincts and lived while many others perished while listening to the orders of the so-called experts. As the ship started to list, the people with the good instincts got on top of the ship and were able to jump into the water and be rescued. The other people listened to the announcement on the loud speakers, telling everyone to stay in their places and sit still. Sadly many of the missing heeded the announcement and remained sitting inside the cabin, waiting for further instructions. Many people drowned due to listening to some so-called experts that were probably getting ready to jump into a lifeboat while they were telling them to stay put. Whenever you ignore your instincts you are putting yourself at risk. The tragic event in South Korea can provide a lesson that we can apply to the mess our country and government is getting into.

Too many of our citizens are listening to expert opinions from politicians and the government concerning the state of our nation. It has gotten to the point where our people would rather believe a lie instead of the truth. I have heard people complain about corrupt politicians, but I believe that they are just a symptom of a much greater problem. When we ignore our instincts and re-elect them we are asking for problems. It has become an every day event for our experts to lie and distort the facts about our government and too many of the voters just give them a pass.

However there are those of us who have leaned from history and our instincts are working very well. From the Romans to the Ottoman Empire to the Venetians, history is full of examples which show that once societies lose confidence in the system, substantial change and turmoil often follows. It didn't happen overnight. The embarrassing failures of Obamacare and the NSA and IRS scandals have our people losing confidence not only in individual politicians, but in the system itself. Our people are beginning to view government as the problem, not the solution. And this represents a complete breakdown in the social contract. If a deal sounds too good to be true it is time that we start trusting our instincts and stop listening to all of the expert opinions.
