THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

BATTERED TAXPAYER SYNDROME

All of us have heard about or know some person that is in an abusive environment; the abuse can range from verbal to physical. I have heard many people say that the abused party needs to stop it, and if they don’t they must approve of it. Until someone has actually been in that position, I have found that talk is cheap. While some people think that they have all of the answers concerning domestic abuse, most of them can’t see the abuse that the taxpayers of this country are experiencing on a daily basis.

Earlier this year I wrote a column about theformer head of tax-exempt organizations for the Internal Revenue Service, Lois Lerner, and her refusal to answer questions about the IRS targeting conservative groups. According to the articles that I read she invoked the Fifth Amendment countless times and said that she would only answer the questions if given immunity. While she claims that she is innocent of any wrongdoing, why is she so reluctant to tell about her actions while heading that department? Recent developments concerning this case should be raising red flags to the American taxpayer.

The IRS has "lost" two years of emails belonging to Lois Lerner; from January 2009 through April 2011 the IRS doesn't have a record of her emails to outside groups or government agencies. According to the latest excuse from the IRS, the loss of the emails was due to a crashed computer. Maybe the people at the IRS think the crashed computer story will pacify the American public. However if we as taxpaying citizens were audited I am sure that if we didn’t have documentation the IRS would not accept that. It never ceases to amaze me how convenient information is lost when an investigation is ongoing.

Some emails have been found that belonged to Lois Lerner, they confirmed that she was in contact with Democrat members of Congress and the Department of Justice about prosecuting Tea Party and conservative groups. All of this was done just prior to the 2010-midterm elections. Our government was founded to protect the rights of the citizens of our country, not to intimidate them. One of our founders made the comment that when the government fears the people you have liberty, when the people fear the government you have tyranny. From everything I have been witnessing, all of the people in the private sector are suffering from Battered Taxpayer Syndrome and don’t even know it.

Fortunately the founders of this nation gave us the tools to stop this nonsense. First of all we need to take the time to vote. Second we need to select statesmen instead of the lying politician who only cares about re-election. We have the ability to cure ourselves if we will only get up off of our butts and do it.
