WEIGHT LOSS AND POLITICS

Most all of us at one time or another have put on a few pounds and would like to have found an easy way to lose those extra pounds before we had to buy a new wardrobe. It never ceases to amaze me at all of the products that claim to help you shed the pounds with little or no effort. They can range from some so-called fat burner pill or some fad diet that will allow you to eat piles of certain foods and still lose weight. Maybe the people promoting the diets that allow you to eat yourself thin believe that carrying around all that extra food will give you enough exercise to get thin. From personal experience I have found that most things that we have to do in life requires discipline. If a person is serious about losing weight they cannot set at the local donut shop and eat a dozen donuts every morning or eat three cheese burgers for dinner and expect to lose weight. We humans have a bad habit of believing what we want to believe, and there is never a shortage of charlatans that will sell you a cheap fix that is as worthless as a three dollar bill. We are in an election year and can see many similarities in someone claiming to have all of the answers to fix the problems that our nation is facing.

The problems that our nation is facing didn’t come about over night. It reminds me of bad habits we can develop in eating snacks while watching television; it is easy to eat one candy bar tonight and it becomes easier to eat two tomorrow night. While we continue developing our bad snack habit we begin to notice that we have a harder time seeing our shoes because of a growing middle. There is an old saying that we humans like to have our cake and eat it too. All of the problems facing our nation, such as the out of control spending, will require some hard decisions to keep us from destroying ourselves. I have noticed that far too many people in our nation are not willing to sacrifice any of the perks that they enjoy; they have a bad habit of expecting someone else to give up theirs. There are some elected officials that do understand the problems and understand that eventually sacrifices will have to be made, however many of them don’t stay in office very long. Once elected they immediately come under attack by special interest groups that want to maintain the status quo; if they stand by their convictions usually they will be a one term elected official. Also, there is a never ending line of politicians that understand the problem but are willing to sell the voters the idea that there is an easy fix if they will only elect them.

In this election cycle maybe it would be a good idea to review the resume of our candidates and see if they were ever in the weight loss business.
