WHERE CAN WE GO
Over the past weeks there has been a lot of news about the illegal alien children crossing our southern border. I feel that there are many Americans that do not grasp the seriousness of the situation. The news media, in their usual unbiased attitude, fail to report the diseases that these children are suspected of carrying and the economic problems of states on the border having to deal with tens of thousands of children sneaking into our country. But they do report on the deplorable conditions in the countries that they are leaving.
I agree that many of the Central American countries have turned into a virtual cesspool, the corruption and violence has become so bad that people have given up on cleaning it up. We people of the United States need to learn a lesson from our neighbors from the south. The corruption that they are experiencing did not happen overnight. Those people forgot that working for a better, civilized society is a full time job and it cannot be simply delegated to some slick talking politician. Maybe they tolerated some underhanded dealing as long as it benefited them. Maybe they didn’t become alarmed; as their government bureaucracies grew so large that hard working people couldn’t pay enough taxes to keep the Ponzi scheme going. Maybe they began to feel that the only way to survive was to deal in illegal drugs or other criminal activity. Eventually the few remaining good people were sandwiched between a corrupt government and drug cartels that showed no mercy on them.
This scenario probably played out over several years and I am sure that there were some people that did try to stand up and stop the downward spiral. I am also sure that many were intimidated or killed to silence their outcry. The status quo grows as a society grows, and humans will do any thing to preserve it. As I look at our beloved United States of America I can see the same thing happening here. We allow politicians to divide us by race or economic condition. We fail to see the seriousness of growing a government beyond our ability to pay for it. Too many of our citizens fail to become outraged when our elected leaders make a habit of lying to us or using agencies such as the IRS to silence anyone who speaks up. Already I have witnessed people on a local level stay silent on issues that directly affect them because they fear retaliation.
We Americans had better wake up and start to look at the bigger picture. Our founders created a system that allows WE THE PEOPLE to run our government and it means just that. If We The People don’t take an active role in preserving our Constitutional Republic we will go the way of Central America. If that happens, where else in the world will we go to find a place with freedom and opportunity?
