A WORLD GONE MADD
As I watch the news I have serious concerns about the survival of the human race. Yes we humans have become technologically advanced; the gadgets and items that we use on a daily basis are things that would have made good science fiction not that long ago. For those who believe in the religion of evolution a logical assumption would be for humans to grow into beings that could avoid war and all of the brutality that we see on the news every day. Sadly evil is alive and well in our world today. The people in my grandparent’s generation faced an evil with the names of Hitler, Mussolini and a host of others that history has forgotten. My grandparent’s generation was appropriately named this country’s greatest generation. Many of that generation didn’t have very much money but they did have something much more valuable, they had a strong moral fiber and a sense of right, wrong and an ability to see evil.
The events unfolding in the Middle East with the Group ISIS shows what humans are capable of, anytime any group will slaughter innocent people who don’t agree with their particular religion the civilized people of this world need to become alarmed. In the past the United States was a force of good that, at a huge cost defeated evil, but evil is relentless. As I look across our great country I can see that it is not nearly as great as it once was. The French Historian Alex Tocqueville once said of our country, “America is great because she is good, but if she ever ceases to be good she will cease to be great”. While we like to pat ourselves on the back and boast of our greatness, maybe we need to take a hard look at the conditions in our own nation.
Our nation has accumulated debt levels never seen before with a slim chance or intent to pay them back. All Americans today have benefited because our nation has been the world’s most powerful economic force, but today we face the possibility of the US dollar losing its reserve currency status sooner than most people now predict. With chaos building across the globe there aren’t any great leaders stepping up to solve the problems, we don’t have leaders such as Churchill or Reagan, we only have politicians with a big basket of worn out clichés. Another problem we have, and I believe it to be the biggest one, is that we have become a nation that's more divided than any time since the American Civil War.
Our nation was founded upon the Judeo Christian belief system. While the news media cannot say enough about Islam and the Koran, they say very little about our holy book the Bible. For two thousand years we have been warned about these days. Many people across the globe look to America as a source of good. Are we good enough? I hope that America is still good enough to be a force against evil, but until we become a nation with shared values like our grandparents, we will never reach our full potential.
