THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

LOOKING OUT FOR #1

I have lived my entire life in the rural area of eastern Oklahoma. Taking care of our livestock is something that my entire family has done ever since I can remember. We have made it a policy to have our cattle divided into different groups to prevent a total loss in the event a disease could infect our cows. If one group of cattle becomes sick they will not be allowed to intermingle with the healthy herds. It is a far more intelligent decision to prevent an epidemic and avoid all of the costs to treat them if they would become infected. I realize that many of our elected leaders know next to nothing about raising livestock, but they should take a good look at our nation’s farmers and ranchers about controlling the spread of disease and apply it to the danger our nation is facing with the Ebola disease.

Our nation is becoming paralyzed about using common sense because of the fear of not being politically correct. The nation of Liberia, along with other nations, is experiencing an epidemic of the Ebola disease. Our government should focus its energy upon protecting our citizens and not take any chances on the health and welfare of our citizens.  I feel that there should be an immediate travel ban on anyone coming to the United States from those unfortunate countries. I contend that it is not being racist or inhumane to limit the travel into our country. The risk of an outbreak is too great to take any chances. Our nation does have one of the best health care systems in the world, but even with all of our technology we don’t have the ability to provide isolation rooms for huge numbers of people.

Our current administration seems to not worry about the potential problems that we as a nation can expect if preventative steps are not taken immediately. The problem with our southern border has not been dealt with. It wasn’t that long ago when a continent had an outbreak of some serious disease it would stop spreading when it reached the ocean. Today that scenario does not apply, with air travel across the globe we are flirting with an epidemic on a global scale. We also need to realize that the risk of a global epidemic is not limited only to Ebola. In our own personal lives we would not jeopardize the health of our families by allowing someone with a serious contagious disease to come into our homes. Looking out for number one is not being racist or politically incorrect. Anything that can be done to stop the spread of any contagious disease must be done. The best preventative is to limit the exposure instead of treating someone after being infected.
