JUST ANOTHER ADDICTION

There is nothing more heartbreaking than the effects that an addiction can cause on the well being of a person. Whether the addiction is from drugs, alcohol or gambling the effects are often the same. I have noticed that the addictions usually start off slow and grow into a monster that can consume all aspects of the person’s life. In the case of illegal drugs, usually the drug pusher will give the person a free sample just to start the addiction. After a period of time the addict requires more and more of the drug to get the desired effect. When the addict reaches that point, his or her life revolves around getting more drugs; they will bankrupt themselves and even resort to stealing to satisfy the hunger. As I look at our society and its dependency upon government, it bears a striking resemblance to just another form of addiction.

Just last week our president deemed it necessary to appoint an Ebola Czar to oversee the fight against the Ebola disease. The American taxpayer already pays huge sums of money to government health departments on a state, local and federal level. Over the years we have been assured that the American people are being properly protected. It has become crystal clear that our system has grown so bloated and out of control that no one really knows what everyone else is doing. So what is the only answer that our oversized government can come up with? They want to cure an oversized government by making it bigger.

This same kind of mentality is being used on all government spending. In the private sector, if a business has to borrow money just to pay the interest on money already owed that business will cease to exist. Like a drug addict that must increase the dosage in order to get a high, our government has to create more agencies just to control already existing agencies and offices.

As long as you have the money a drug pusher will sell you substances that they clam will solve all of your problems. Likewise government will try to sell you on the idea that you cannot survive without government. We are constantly told that we need to spend more money on another war of one kind or the other. Remember the “war on poverty”, “war on terrorism” and countless other things. Most of the time the success rates are very low. The main damage is too many of our citizens have lost the ability to be self-reliant. Instead of looking inside of themselves to find solutions to life’s problems they are addicted to getting a fix from some government agency.

Whenever a person gets hooked on drugs or booze, if they want to cure the addiction they first have to admit they have a problem. Until we Americans realize that government can be an addiction we will never cure the problems that we are facing in our nation.
