WANTED, TIME MACHINE
Over the past few days I have been watching the mayhem that is happening in Baltimore, Maryland, and becoming more disgusted by the day. At one time I had the belief that we Americans were a logical people that believed in the rule of law; over the past days I have begun to question that belief. The thugs that have been doing all of the rioting, looting and burning of local businesses are just using the death of the individual that was in police custody as an excuse to go completely wild. We are seeing the results of the actions of the race-baiting individuals who want to keep emotions stirred up over things that happened 150 years ago.
In the case of the black Americans, it was deplorable how their ancestors were brought to this country and forced to serve as slaves, but I would like to make a point that no one seems to acknowledge. In my family I know that my great grandparents, grandparents, parents nor myself has ever owned or desired to own another human being. While it cannot be said of all nations, our United States outlawed slavery when Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation during the time of our Civil War.
Our country cannot survive the victim game that the race baiters play, we should not keep that hate alive and directed at the descendents of someone that lived 150 years ago. If you want to know where festering hate will take you just look at the current events in the Middle East with groups such as ISIS. It is a sad fact that we humans have a clannish trait not unlike the pack instinct of a wolf. If someone is not of the same clan we immediately have a dislike of them, but unlike animals we have the ability to do better and control that instinct. The people whose businesses have been burnt to the ground are definitely victims; will their descendents have the right to hate the descendents of the people who are causing all of the trouble today?
I believe that many of our current problems are caused by the current welfare system. Making people dependent on government handouts just gives youths time to form gangs and get into trouble instead of being productive. Decisions made by these youths follow over into adulthood making them less employable. Jobs are unavailable because of many factors, but certainly all the illegal immigration puts a further burden on the availability of jobs for these poorer communities.
It would be nice to have a time machine and to be able to go back and correct all of the misdeeds that people have done in the past, but as far as I know the prospect of time travel is pretty slim. Until time travel becomes feasible we must stop dwelling on the past deeds of the people that lived in the distant past. I have found that dealing with our current problems is a full time job; our founding document states that all men are endowed by the creator with the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As civilized people it is our duty to elect people that value those concepts and stop playing politics to simply stay in office.
