THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

YOU NEVER MISS THE WATER

Over the past month we Oklahomans have had our share of rainwater. While too much water can be a royal pain in the backside, we need to remember that it is the most essential element for our country to thrive. In normal times the allocation of our water resources is very serious business. In the past the federal government, namely the EPA, and the Army Corps of Engineers have been in control of the navigable waters of our nation. Now the Obama Administration wants to expand that control to all tributaries that feed into those navigable waters. Currently the states and local entities have been in control of smaller streams and lakes; if this power grab is not thwarted federal bureaucrats will be in control of all of the water resources in this nation.

According to representatives of the EPA, they are claiming that expending their authority will protect the drinking water that one in three Americans rely upon on a daily basis. Brian Deese, Obama’s top environmental advisor was quoted as saying, “ The rule is an important win for public health and for our economy.” Later he wanted to label anyone opposing the expanded authority as being against clean water. He went on to say, “ The only people with reason to oppose the bill are polluters who want to threaten clean water.”

Down here on the farm we have an old saying about never missing the water until the well goes dry. I am definitely not in favor of allowing some agency in Washington DC to manage the water resources in my state and my home. If the recent mismanagement of our healthcare system is any indication of how our government would manage our nation’s water resources, we would be in deep trouble.  This bill would be the biggest destroyer of our private property rights this country has ever seen. Anytime someone disagrees with the feds on how to use his or her water resources, they would be using their limited resources fighting un-elected bureaucrats with never ending resources.

The supporters of this federal overreach claim that it won’t affect private property rights and they will respect the people of this country. Before we sit back and allow the Obama Administration to seize more control over our lives we need to remember all of the mis-representation and outright lies about the so-called Affordable Health Care Act. This current administration is using the subject of health and health care as an excuse to remake our nation into a socialist state. When you look at the current administration objectively, every action they take is an attempt to gain control of the people in this nation. When entitlement programs are expanded people become addicted and controlled by government. Now the rest of us are controlled by more and more government regulations. Fortunately our Oklahoma State Attorney General Scott Pruitt is challenging this federal overreach.

It is easy to become distracted in the political world; all the main stream media seems to be concerned with are topics such as gay marriage or someone letting the air out of footballs. I urge everyone to support Scott Pruitt and stop this assault on our property rights. If we don’t we could end up pretty thirsty in the future.
