PARADISE LOST
People that had read and studied history founded our nation. Today it seems that we have a bunch of people that have read some history, but because of their arrogance and high opinion of themselves they think they are immune to the failures of past generations. We Americans are headed down the exact same path as the Roman Empire. The original Roman Republic became wealthy and was the envy of the world at that time. They, too, fell victim to the self centered and arrogant attitude that has infected our once great nation.
The Roman’s form of government evolved from being a republic to a democracy, then to an oligarchy. During that transformation they allowed a ruling government class to come into existence. The government class became good at getting themselves reelected, they found by essentially buying votes with money from the public treasury they could secure enough votes from certain groups to get back in office. The only problem with this system was that to support an ever-increasing government class the remaining taxpayers couldn’t pay the tax burden. Eventually the ones paying the bills couldn’t keep their heads above water then they, too, went on the government dole; then the once great Roman Republic fell.
The decision by the Supreme Court on King vs. Burwell is an example of how far our system of government has been corrupted. The Court has overstepped its authority again by legislating from the bench. Instead of sending the Affordable Care Act back to Congress to hammer out the flaws, the majority of the justices have presumed to know what the previous lawmakers wanted even if they failed to write it in the law. Because of the Court’s decision, the penalties imposed upon the citizens who refuse to be blackmailed into buying insurance they cannot afford will continue. . The majority of the American people have never supported Obamacare and the way it has been crammed down our throats.
In the last election the people of this country gave the Republicans the majority in both houses of Congress largely because they promised to repeal Obamacare; so far the majority has caved to pressure and refused to use all of the tools they have to stop this train wreck. Maybe the leadership had the misguided belief that the Court would deal with it and they would not have to. Lets face it folks, our elected Republicans need to show a little backbone and stop caving into what the administration wants.
Obamacare is just one more nail in the coffin of our once great Republic. Maybe we are doing a disservice to our ambitious young people by urging them to be self-sufficient and strive to make something of their lives. Maybe we should be teaching them to just live off of the system and be content to let someone else pay their bills and live it up until the whole financial system collapses. There are many of us who still hold the values that our country was founded upon, but I am having less faith in our government when the government class continually ignores the very Constitution they sworn to protect. Many of the people in government are living the good life, but for the freedom loving true Americans Paradise is lost or at least fading.
