CONTAGION OF STUPIDITY

Most people in this country like to take a few days off to have a miniature vacation. All of us expect our homes to be in the same shape when we return as when we left. I wonder how any of us would feel if we came home and a group of individuals were living in our home without our permission, eating our food, watching our television and enjoying all of the things that we worked so hard to have? Most of us would be outraged at the people making themselves comfortable in our home. Like most people I would try to throw them out, but if I couldn’t I would call the local law enforcement and demand that they would evict my unwelcomed house guests. How would you feel if the local police refused to remove them and you were also informed that the people squatting on your property had every right to be there? While this scenario sounds absurd, a variation of it is currently playing out in the State of California.

Recently California governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1461, the new Motor Voter Act. This bill would automatically register anyone to vote when they renewed or received a driver license in the state of California. Also, under California law, illegal aliens are eligible to apply for a driver’s license which in turn would open the door for people that came into our country illegally to vote and influence public policy and taxes. Most logical people would ask why any legislature and governor would pass a bill that would allow someone coming into our country illegally to vote; the answer is all about gaining and maintaining political power. Studies have shown that of unregistered illegal adults, 49% lean to the Democrat party while only 22% support Republican values. The whole scheme is nothing more than a way of strengthening the left’s control of California. People in the other states may believe that if the people of California are foolish enough to tolerate and accept such a law, let them live with it. If this contagion of stupidity would only stay within the borders of California that would be fine, but it has the ability to spread.

Each state sends Senators and Representatives to our nation’s capital, many times the votes on bills are passed or thrown out over one or two votes. It is not implausible that some legislator from the state of California who was elected by people coming across our borders would have the swing vote that would force the whole nation to accept a bad piece of legislation. In my opinion ignorance can be forgiven to a certain extent, but stupidity cannot. It is a sad fact in our society today that too many politicians are more concerned about maintaining political power instead of upholding the Constitution and the American way of life. If we do not stop this contagion of stupidity, the United States will continue to decline and will not resemble the country I grew up in.
