THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

 JUST DO IT

I just finished watching the end of the Republican National Convention and I was impressed with the acceptance speech of Donald Trump. While he said many of the things that most of us conservatives have been saying for a long time, it will take more than words to make them happen. I believe that Mr. Trump can be one of the greatest presidents in our history, or he can be one of the biggest disappointments. This is nothing new; we Americans have experienced these same phenomena every election cycle. When you look at our current president, many people were conned into believing that he was the most intelligent person to ever hold that office. I have to say that during my lifetime he has the distinction of being the most arrogant.

When you watch the main stream news we are told that the economy and life in general is just hunky dory. If you take the time to ask the small business people in this country about the state of the economy you will get a much different report. Most small businesses are just holding on waiting for a better day. The unnecessary regulations, fees and expenses are removing more and more of their disposable income. At least Trump is addressing the fact that the president should be looking out for the American people first. The only solution of too many people on the left is to take more in taxes and fees to keep government expanding.

I recently read an article about Hugo Chavez the Venezuelan dictator. He was an avowed socialist, he believed strongly in the idea of redistributing wealth from rich to poor.  Even though Venezuela was sliding into economic chaos his only solution was to confiscate more property and redistribute even more wealth. What he and all other socialists fail to understand is a simple fact; if there’s no wealth creation, there’s nothing left to redistribute. At least Trump understands the importance of creating wealth. We Americans need to understand that government does not create wealth, it only redistributes it. Next week we will hear what the Democrat party has to offer; so far Hillary Clinton has only promised more government programs that, in my opinion, only will make matters worse.

For years we have heard countless politicians make all kind of grandiose promises, but when they occupy their elected offices they seem to forget their promises. Usually there is a simple reason for this behavior; for them to get elected many of them have to, in essence, sell their soul to raise the funds necessary to get elected. When legislation comes before them that could make a difference often times their donors remind them of their obligation and that usually ends any meaningful reform. I am sure that Trump will have pressure placed upon him, but by funding his own campaign he won’t be as susceptible as many other politicians. Doing the right and proper thing has consequences. My advice for Trump is simple, when good legislation comes before you just do it and forget the usual politics.
