MIRACLE FROM GOD
When I look into the history of this nation I have come to the conclusion that the Constitution and the form of government that our founders gave us was nothing short of a miracle. Our system was so well conceived that it has protected us from much of the corruption and stupidity that we humans routinely engage in. Even with all of the built in protection our Constitution does have its limits. Most of us can remember some Civics from our grade school years; I can remember the phrase of our government being ‘for the people, by the people and of the people.’ If we really believe those phrases there are requirements and duties that all of us as citizens need to take more serious.
We Americans conveniently forget that in a free society it is the duty of each one of us to take an active part in the affairs of our government. It saddens me to see how many people do not even take the time to go vote, and an even sadder fact is too many of our citizens don’t educate themselves on the current issues to make a logical decision on what to vote for or against. There are those of us who are passionate about what goes on at all levels of government; I find it hard to understand why more people are not concerned about the way our county is going. I have talked to several people in business who have told me that they don’t want to get involved in politics because it might hurt business. It is true that taking a stand on any issue may cause some people to disagree with you, but I have the firm belief that bad government policies are definitely bad for business.
I am a small businessman and I understand the small businesses are the foundation for our entire economy. One thing that I have noticed about the government class, they have the flawed opinion that wealth and prosperity comes from government and not from the private sector. Their policies are having a detrimental effect upon the small business sector. Excessive license requirements, fees and higher taxes, and government mandates on such things as healthcare are eating away at the health of the private sector. Our economy can be compared to a simple food chain. The small business sector is always the first ones to feel the pain but I can guarantee that this pain will eventually climb the ladder and the government class will feel it also.
During this election cycle I have already noticed that too many of our people are allowing themselves to be deceived and manipulated by the news media and countless political candidates. If our nation is to survive it is imperative that we Americans get our collective heads out of the sand and start doing our civic duty. We can have blessings and miracles from God, but even God expects us to be deserving of those gifts.
