NO EXCUSES
Like many other Americans I am a little sleep deprived from staying up until 2:30 AM Wednesday morning. This election cycle is one that will be talked about for many years to come. While at times the rhetoric from both sides got a little intense, at least in our nation no blood was shed to have a change of direction in our government. I make no bones about the fact that I supported Donald Trump for president; while he wasn’t my first pick for the job, his values are more in line with mine than his former opponent. It is an accepted fact that Mr. Trump is a manager and has a record of getting things done; it is my prayer that God will give him the wisdom and strength to make our people feel proud to be an American. I can remember when Ronald Reagan took office, that time was similar to what has happened to our nation over the past several years. Our people at that time seemed to lack direction and pride in our nation, but President Reagan was the kind of man that inspired our nation to have pride and self confidence. One of my favorite quotes by Ronald Reagan went like this, “The mark of a great man is not the great, wondrous things that he can accomplish but the great and wondrous things that he can inspire others to do”. A couple days ago I was talking to a friend about Trump and he made the point that he is a little rough around the edges. All of us can agree with that observation, but I told him that if Trump has a deep love for this nation he will be a good president. During his acceptance speech he impressed me of his love for this nation and the principles that it was founded upon; but, like Ronald Reagan, he also said trust but verify.
We Americans spoke with a loud voice that we are not satisfied with the way our nation has been headed over the past 8 years. Over the recent election cycles we have given control of the US House and Senate to the Republicans. While many of our elected officials made the promise to fight legislation such as Obamacare, when push came to shove many of them didn’t have the backbone to fight on our behalf. Tuesday night we Americans gave the Republicans the presidency as well, we will not accept any excuses for not dealing with the problems that face our nation. Over the years I have been very critical of the liberal progressives whose only solution is to borrow more money and increase the size of government. Too many people make the mistake of thinking that all Republicans are conservative, that is not necessarily so. I have the belief that not all Republicans are conservative, but all conservatives are Republican.
Many of the Trump supporters are what I call the Salt of the Earth; we have witnessed our liberties eroding for several years and the government elites being only concerned with getting re-elected. In all levels of government, from the lowest to the highest, we conservatives will be watching and we will no longer be accepting excuses.
