HAD ENOUGH YET?
Here we are at the end of 2016, with the New Year just a few days away; I believe that it would be appropriate for all of us to do some soul searching. I think that many of the average hardworking people in this nation are beginning to open their eyes to the mess that the political class has inflicted upon our nation. The whole presidential election was determined by the average hardworking citizen that has been ignored for far too long. It is very simple; the average person has simply had enough. We are tired of being the victims of a bunch of old socialist ideas that have been re-hashed with the promise that we will have a utopia if we will only sacrifice more of our freedoms to the elite class.
When we listen to many of the political class, they will tell you that we are doing great and things couldn’t be any better; when you look at the hard facts they paint a much different picture. Things like home ownership, labor participation rate, and median household income are all on a downward spiral. Other trends such as food stamps, health insurance rates and the federal debt are on an upward spiral. It behooves me to understand why we Americans keep putting up with this nonsense. I have noticed that there are people and candidates who understand the dilemmas we are facing as a nation, but they have a devil of a time getting the public to take them seriously. I guess it boils back to the old adage that people only hear what they want to hear. One of my biggest pet peeves is the way our election process has degraded to nothing more than endless clichés printed on some fancy photo grade brochure that tells you nothing about our true problems. I have often been asked how we get our system back in order.
The first, and most important thing, is for our citizens to get themselves informed about the issues and take politics serious. The second item is to search for alternative sources of information and stop relying upon the mainstream media. Thirdly, we need to realize that politics and government require our constant attention; we may think that since we voted in the last election we have done our duty. That assumption is very wrong; the election is just the beginning. I am a conservative and I believe in a system of government that is limited and efficient. Just because somebody running for office prints that they are conservative on their brochures doesn’t ensure they have those beliefs. There are several organizations that will help you cut through the red tape and bull crap that is put out for public consumption, it is our duty to make sure that our elected leaders honor the commitment of conservatism. Getting involved with your local county party is a good step; I have found that you can become stronger when you are around like minded people.
Whether we like to admit it or not worthless, corrupt politicians are a symptom of a much bigger problem, the real problem is the voters who don’t do their homework and keep electing them. I for one intend to do a better job of being informed in 2017 and I urge everyone to do better. I am among the wave of people that have had enough.
