THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE

Debate can be one of the greatest sources of entertainment. It never ceases to amaze me how someone can defend something or someone that is reality un-defendable. Over the past several days there has been a constant back and forth about the impending repeal of the so called Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare). The defenders of this poorly crafted piece of legislation are already starting to try to scare the American people into believing that repealing Obamacare would essentially MAKE AMERICA SICK AGAIN.

They like to throw out some arbitrary off the cuff numbers to prove the success of Obamacare; it makes we wonder what planet they are living on. In any piece of legislation there are some people that will benefit because of it, but in the case of Obamacare there are far more people being hurt by its mandates. For example, I know one person who cannot afford the high price of the government mandated insurance. He recently received a letter from the IRS informing him that if he didn’t purchase a policy during the current enrollment period he would be facing a fine in excess of $1,350.00. In the past this individual had purchased a policy with a $7,500.00 deductible per year. When you start doing the math, if he had become ill or injured he would have had to spend at least $7.5k while at the same time keeping up the estimated premiums of $5k per year. The end result, he would have to spend $12,500.00 per year for health care before the insurance would even start paying anything. We need to remember that the deductible applies for every year, not for the illness itself. On top of the other bad marks for the policy, a person could only use doctors that the insurance company approved of; the patient couldn’t choose his own doctor.

I agree that many Americans are sick. They are sick of a bunch of politicians and bureaucrats taking away our freedoms and forcing us to purchase a sorry insurance policy that doesn’t provide for our needs. The American people spoke volumes when we elected Donald Trump. Over the past several years the US House of Representatives have voted roughly 60 times to repeal Obamacare even though they knew that President Obama would veto it. We will soon have a president that has promised to sign the repeal. I understand that lawmaking can be a slow process, but the mandate for Obamacare must be removed immediately.

Playing Devil’s Advocate may be fun to play, but the American people are tired of a bunch of people who have never run a business or worked in the private sector peeing on our boots and trying to convince us that it is only rain. The time to repeal our socialist healthcare system is now. The working class and the small business people of this nation will not tolerate a bunch of political rhetoric or delaying tactics.  No matter how long someone may try to convince you that the devil is a saint, we need to remember the devil is still the devil.
