THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

THE FEAR FACTOR

I have noticed that there are several factors that dictate how we humans will act or react. The two most common factors are greed and fear. When you couple the two of them together the outcome is seldom good. There are countless issues that are facing our nation and, for the most part, the citizens of this nation only rely upon the mainstream media to inform us. I have come to the conclusion that the media’s goal today is to mis-inform instead of informing the populous. One issue in the recent news is the subject of Climate Change; in my opinion the whole idea of climate change is a ploy to remove more of our freedoms and more of our dwindling cash reserves.

All of us want a clean and safe place to live and we also want to have all of the modern conveniences that the world has to offer. With those conveniences we have developed a habit of accepting certain claims by listening to only one side of an issue. I have found over the years when you let fear determine your actions more than likely you will make some very bad decisions. I am old enough to remember back in the early 80’s the fear mongers were claiming that the world was on the verge of another ice age; now three and a half decades later we are being warned that we will be burned to a crisp by global warming and all of it due to the actions of we humans. The thing that allows the fear mongers to scare the fertilizer out of the people is we simply don’t live long enough to see the cycles this planet goes through.

In the ancient past our planet has had ups and downs in the climate, and it is a fact that humans did not play any part in those changes. When you hear the reports of climate change very seldom will you hear any reports from the experts who refute the whole idea of humans causing the effect. One example; recently a NASA scientist who fears sunspot activity on the surface of our star has dropped so low that it could herald the arrival of a uniquely grim mini Ice Age. The scientist went on to say that Sunspot activity follows a cycle which is believed to last 11 years as the number of patches peaks and drops. There have been very few spots on the sun for most of this year, meaning that it could be about to get very cold, very quickly. Other things, such as a major eruption of a super volcano such as Yellowstone, could have a major impact on our climate. In the long history of our planet these things happen, and no amount of legislation from any government will do anything to stop it. Our ancestors used their God-given abilities to adapt to the challenges they faced.

When we hear legislation proposed such as a carbon tax, many times it is just another way for the elite in government to siphon off more of your hard earned money to satisfy their greed for more money. I agree that our planet is experiencing climate change, but it is nothing new; it has been going on for a long time before we humans ever walked on this planet. Before we let ourselves become so frightened that we make decisions that we will regret, we had better search out the other side of the equation and make a more informed decision.
